MoverChecked

Privacy policy

This policy explains what data MoverChecked collects, who else can collect data when you visit, and what choices you have. It describes what this site actually does, not what a template says it might do.

Who runs this site

MoverChecked is an independently run publication. It is not a moving company, a carrier, a broker or a lead generation service. For any privacy request, write to hello@moverchecked.com with the word privacy in the subject line.

What we collect ourselves

  • Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard technical data for every request: IP address, date and time, page requested, browser and operating system, and referring page. Used for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing errors, not to build a profile of you.
  • What you send us. If you email us, we hold that message. If you report a moving quote, the figures are used in aggregate to build the ranges published here. We do not publish your name or address, and we do not pass your details to carriers, brokers or lead networks. That last point is the one that matters most on a site about moving.

This site has no user accounts, no login, no comment system and no newsletter. We do not ask for your name, address or phone number anywhere.

Advertising and cookies

This site is funded by display advertising delivered by Google, including Google AdSense. This is the main way data about you may be collected here.

  • Google and its advertising partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads. Where you have consented, or where local law permits, those cookies may be used to show ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.
  • Third party vendors participating in Google’s advertising systems may set their own cookies. We do not control them and do not receive the data they collect.
  • We have no access to any advertising cookie or the identifiers inside it. Our reporting shows aggregate figures only.

How Google uses information from sites that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. How it uses data in advertising: policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

Your choices about advertising

Consent

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be asked for consent before advertising cookies are used, through a consent management platform certified by Google. Your choice is stored so you are not asked on every page, and you can change it at any time using the privacy settings control shown alongside advertising, or by emailing us. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it.

Analytics

No third party analytics service is currently collecting data on this site. If that changes, this page will be updated before the service is switched on.

California privacy rights

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, using advertising identifiers and browsing information for cross context behavioural advertising can count as sharing personal information, even with no money changing hands.

  • We do not sell personal information. We do not pass your details to lead brokers, moving companies or data brokers.
  • To opt out of sharing for advertising, use the privacy settings control shown alongside advertising, turn off personalised ads at myadcenter.google.com, or email us with the words do not share in the subject.
  • Global Privacy Control. Where your browser sends a recognised opt out preference signal, our consent tooling is configured to treat it as an opt out request.
  • Other rights include knowing what is held about you, correcting it and deleting it. Because we hold almost nothing, in most cases the honest answer will be that there is nothing beyond server logs and any email you sent.
  • No discrimination. Exercising any of these rights does not change your access to this site.

If you are in the EEA or the UK

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, our legal bases are consent for advertising and similar technologies, and legitimate interest for the security and error logs above. You have the right to access, correct, delete and port your data, to object to processing, to withdraw consent at any time, and to complain to your national supervisory authority.

Children

This site is written for adults planning a move and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

Retention

Server logs are retained by our hosting provider for a short rolling period. Emails are kept as long as needed to deal with them. Quote data reported to us is stripped of contact details and kept in aggregate form.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. No system is completely secure, and because we deliberately collect so little, there is very little here to lose.

Other sites we link to

We link to federal registers, carriers and other publications. Once you follow a link, that site’s privacy policy applies.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date below changes with it. The most likely future change is adding an analytics service, and that would be disclosed here first.
